The May 18 Foundation and Stiftung Ettersberg warmly invite you to our academic conference, titled "From Dictatorship to Democracy."

Founded in 2002 by Jorge Semprún, a Spanish writer and survivor of the Buchenwald concentration camp, Stiftung Ettersberg is dedicated to commemorating and researching European political systems and dictatorships. The foundation aims to foster dialogue on the history of dictatorship in Germany and promote the stability of democracy.

As two foundations engaged in meaningful discussions on the commemoration and education of histories of dictatorship and violence, and with this conference, the May 18 Foundation and the Stiftung Ettersberg aim to explore the remembrance and education of cases of state violence in South Korea and Germany.
