 2024 5‧18 International Institute Research Theses Competition(Calls for papers) (Draft)

The 5‧18 International Research Institute is holding various research activities to promote academic research and expand its network with researchers, organizations, and institutions interested in democracy research, including 5‧18.

We welcome interested researchers and organizations to participate.

Competitionβ… . 5‧18 International Researchers' Joint Academic Event

 

- Jointly organize an academic conference to be used as a space to spread research discourse on freedom and justice, democracy, peace, and human rights through the medium of 5‧18 research.

A. Eligibility: Academic organizations planning to hold academic conferences in April-October 2024

B. Academic event theme: 5‧18 and democracy, peace, and human rights related content

C. Scale of support: 3 cases in total, around KRW 3,000,000 each *Budget adjustment after consultation with the selected organizations

 

D. Documents to be submitted: 1 copy of the application for joint conference support [Form 1]

Competition β…‘. 5‧18 Research Paper Contest

- Academic research that contributes to the succession of the spirit of 5‧18

- Two research papers by professional researchers, two research papers by university (graduate) students, and two designated research projects will be selected.

 

- Awards after submission of research results

A. Participating topics and targets

- 5‧18 Research papers

Subjects: Historical events, people, truth clarification, memorial projects, memorial facilities, archives, education, literature and art, and other 5‧18-related research related to spatial, generational, and semantic diffusion.

Awards: Professional researchers (2 papers, 4 million won each), young researchers (2 papers, 4 million won each)

- Designated Research Project Research Paper

Research project: Defining the 5 principles of solving the Gwangju problem and the transition period / The problem of clearing and forgiving past history (choice 1)

Award: Professional researchers (2 papers, 4 million won each)

Professional researchers: doctoral program or above

Young researchers: Bachelor's degree or above

The number and amount of awards may be adjusted or reopened depending on the review.

B. Documents to be submitted: 1 copy of the application form (including researcher's personal information, research plan, etc.) [Form 2]

 

- Foreign language thesis applications accepted

β…’. Young Researchers Workshop May Lab

A. Event name: 'May Lab', a workshop for young researchers on May 18, 2024

B. Date: June 27, 2024, 6. 27.(Thu) ~ 29.(Sat), 3 days in total

C. Venue: 5‧18 Memorial Foundation, Gwangju, Korea

D. Number of participants: Around 15 people

- Young researchers interested in 5‧18, freedom and justice, and democracy, peace, and human rights research

- Domestic and international graduate students

E. Program : Research seminars, special lectures on 5‧18, mentoring by professional researchers, visits to 5‧18 historic sites, etc.

B. Documents to be submitted: 1 copy of the application form (including personal information, research plan, etc.) [Form 3].
